The Lapeer Art Association Organization profile
The Lapeer Art Association, incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1973, was founded by local artists who were involved with the 1972 Artrain visit to Lapeer. In the belief that art is vital to the spirit and wholeness of the human experience, the Lapeer Art Association has made a serious commitment to enhance the cultural life of this area by promoting, cultivating, and encouraging art education opportunities. In an effort to support and serve local artists, the L.A.A. encourages and welcomes ALL artists, both amateur and professional in all areas of fine arts and crafts.
Some of the accomplishments of the L.A.A. include:
Developed and funded art mural of Lapeer County courthouse in downtown Lapeer.
Sponsors the “I See Art” program at the elementary school level by providing volunteer art docents and financial support.
Provides funds, volunteer teachers, and judges for the county-wide “Day For The Arts” program.
Has provided classes, supplies and volunteer teachers for art classes at Suncrest Medical Facility.
Judges annual poster contest sponsored by the Lapeer Conservation District
Women from L.A.A participate in the Lapeer annual “Just For You”, a women in business exposition, demonstrating art techniques and displaying work
Has donated books on art to public schools and the Marguerite deAngeli Library.
Donated to the fund for the purchase of the Matisse Collage for the permanent collection at the D.I.A.
Collaborated with Lapeer merchants for the city-wide Deer in Lapeer event
In July of 1995, The Lapeer Art Association purchased a building at 241 Daley Rd. in Lapeer. For 10 years this served as a gallery with free shows available for the public and as a classroom for various art related classes. In 2005, L.A.A. made the decisions to sell the gallery building and moved into the new Lapeer Center for the Arts, located in Downtown Lapeer. This gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday, 11 am-6 pm, with themed shows changing every 4-7 weeks.
The Lapeer Art Association’s goal has always been and always will be to encourage and help new artists, bring artists together, promote the fine arts, and to provide opportunities in the community to be involved in the arts. |
